A tale as old as smartphones- Apple vs Android? According to comScore, smartphones make up almost 77% of the mobile market in the United States with more than 190 million people owning a smartphone. When looking at the amount of Apple vs Android users, people may just look at their own circle of friends and make an assumption. So while you may see more Apple devices than Androids within your circle of friends, that may not represent the United States as a whole. comScore reported smartphone statistics and found that in the United States Android users rule.

Android remains the top operating system in America. However, Samsung’s buzz-worthy promotion encourages Apple users to try a Samsung phone for 30 days for just $1. Galaxy phones up for trial include the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, in addition to the S6 Edge+ and Note 5. The promotion has already ran out of test devices, but tells curious Apple users to wait their turn. It will be interesting to return to comScore’s report in the next three months to see if this marketing move swayed Apple users to switch to Android.

As for the global market, there are similar findings but different competitors. According to a Gartner Q4 2014 report, Apple sold 74.8 million units in Q4 2014 to rank first in the global smartphone manufacturer market. Here are a few more interesting smartphone statistics:
