World’s Thinnest Phone: Gionee Made It Happen!

Chinese cell phone manufacturer Gionee has just announced their next device, dubbed the Gionee GN9005. It will also be the worlds thinnest phone when released, coming in at an unprecedented 5mm thin. By all other accounts, its just a mid range Android device. According to TENAA, the GN9005 will come with a 4.8 inch HD AMOLED Display that will run Android 4.3 Jelly bean on a 1.2GHz quad core processor with 1GB of RAM. The phone also features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera and with come with a 16GB of inbuilt storage as standard.

At 2,050mAh, the battery feels like it was a compromise to get the super-slim form factor, compared to the HTC One M7 and the Nexus 5 which come with a 2,300mAh battery. The phone is expected to be 4G LTE compatible but there is no word on pricing yet.

Goinee beats its own record of “worlds thinnest phone” by going 0.5mm thinner than its Goinee Elife S5.5 which unsurprisingly measured in at 5.5mm thin. The Goinee S5.5 is still the more powerful of the duo, with a 5-inch Super AMOLED Plus Display and running a 1.7GHz octa-core processor with 2GB RAM. It also features a slightly bigger 2,300mAh battery.

If you are a power user looking for an off contract device, we would recommend the Nexus 5 or the OnePlus One (you will have to hunt for an invitation to buy one though – for now at least).
