Tinder, OKCupid, Coffee Meets Bagel.. there are a lot of dating apps out there. So, what makes Bumble so different? With Bumble, only women can start the conversation when a match is made. Another detail is Snapchat-like photo sharing during chat as well! Job title and company, as well as school history, is a nice perk too!
Bumble was developed by Whitney Wolfe, a former cofounder of Tinder whom experienced sexual harrassment, leading to a $1 Million settlement against a co-worker. Wolfe utilized her negative experiences as a springboard for an app that puts the ladies in control. Similar to Tinder, users swipe left or right. If a match is made, the women have a 24-hour time period to message the match and initiate a conversation. Bumble seeks to curb those unwanted or harrassing messages from strangers, as well as put a twist on the traditional approach or social stigmas of dating.
Also, according to Bumble,
“For same sex connections, or friendships, either person has to make a move within the 24hours before that connection disappears. What if you run out of time? Don’t worry! Each person can extend one connection for an additional 24 hours each day to someone you are really interested in connecting with.”
According to a Paragon Poll study, “87% of females say they feel “empowered” by the new set-up – stating that it stops the creepy conversations experienced on other free dating apps.” Will Bumble be the next big dating app? Only time will tell!
