Mobile App Trends
Mobile applications have been taking over the digital world for a while now. They’re apart of our daily lives, in simple ways and in more complex ways. Companies have apps and small businesses start out by having apps as a way to get on their feet and work their way into people’s lives.
Here is the list I’ve gathered of the most prominent mobile app trends I’ve noticed that I believe are going to continue to grow in 2018.
Mobile App Trends
People seem to love wearing their apps. Look at Fitbit, or the Apple watch, for example. It’s a part of the convenience factor (that you will read a lot about in this article) because let’s face it, people love apps that make their lives easier.
Wearable apps meet people’s needs, such as tracking heartbeat/daily steps (I gotta get in my steps for the day!) more accurately and tracking sleep. It’s more accurate than holding your phone while you walk or having it next to you when you sleep; wearing the device makes the information more accurate.
People can also send and receive texts from their apple watch, along with make phone calls, use a map, and even take photos.
I wasn’t a huge fan or the apple watch when it first came out, or even the fitbit. But as time went on and I learned more and heard people rave about everything both devices did, I found myself thinking that they could become an important part of my daily life. And that, my friends, is the future of wearable apps.
Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality
It’s no secret that people LOVE Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). It’s fun, it’s new, and it allows users to interact with the virtual world.
Right now its focus is on entertainment and games, but this is something that has the potential to transform businesses. This is a tool that can be used for stores, doctors offices, events and more to enhance the customer’s experience.
The future is big for AR/VR!
Accelerated Mobile Pages
It’s pretty much a fact that your web page will not rank as well if it doesn’t run well on mobile devices. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). Google introduced the AMP project, so that page loading on mobile devices is now faster (well, accelerated).
This is SUCH an important tool, because people will leave a webpage if it doesn’t load almost immediately, so if you have this tool, you are pretty much guaranteed to rank higher than your competitors.
This is a trend that has gained popularity because of its convenience. People would much rather send money electronically than have to write checks or pay each other in cash every time they need to.
This is also huge for companies and businesses, because instead of paying in the store or in person, you can pay for coffee, lunch, and more without even having to talk to a cashier. Once again, the convenience and efficiency make for greater popularity in mobile apps.
Anything in technology and digital that makes people’s everyday lives easier is naturally going to gain popularity. Examples of these applications include: delivery, ordering coffee, laundry, car services, and more.
More and more companies and businesses will be creating apps this year because people love any opportunity to be more efficient, so having apps that allow them to do that will be a trend that continues to grow.
A definite mobile trend right now is how much we are relying on the cloud. It’s much easier for users because it provides more storage than what we normally have on our phones.
We currently have apps like Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox. The popularity and functionality of these apps will certainly have an impact on apps being more cloud-driven this year.
