Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is something that has been around for a long time, and while it is growing in popularity in 2018, it will likely boom in the next few years. It’s a technology that we are still adjusting to, but it is not yet a staple, or household technology.

Apple has introduced their ARKit, Snapchat’s Lens Studio, and Google’s ARCore. These new software development tools create a platform for developers to build augmented reality apps for IOS.  This is a technology that is constantly changing while gaining new features, and is sure to grow and change exponentially in 2018, and in the years to come.

Facial unlocking

While facial recognition seems completely new, it’s actually been around for a while. Apple isn’t the first company to use facial recognition, Apple Face ID seems to be the most secure right now. Although secure is a bit of a loose term right now, as their have been some glitches with the Face ID with IPhone X, for example: twins and siblings being able to unlock each others phones.

Samsung currently offers Iris scanning, but word on the street is it’s not as convenient as Face ID, although it’s definitely more secure.

Dual Cameras

Who needs to buy a DSLR camera when you can basically have one programmed into your phone? Dual cameras in every phone is something we can hopefully look forward to in 2018.

It’s still more of a new trend, but having a camera with dual functions in a phone is becoming more of a necessity than a luxury these days. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 and Apple’s IPhone X are great examples of this new technology.

Wireless Charging

This is technology that has actually been around for a long time, but it never had a practical application for its use. Now, it’s becoming a trend allowing for greater mobility, in being able to charge your phone without having it connected to a pesky charger. It’s all This is the future, ladies and gentleman.

Better Battery Life

Battery life is one of the biggest factors one should consider when deciding on which new phone to purchase. Luckily, battery life is improving in 2018. It’s important to consider battery size because that’s part of why batteries are getting better; they’re getting bigger.

Sorry IPhone users, Samsung Galaxy phones seem to be taking the lead with the best battery life, but that should come as no surprise. We’re hoping to see battery improvements in this years IPhones.

Mobile Payments

2018 will be the year mobile payments take over. They have slowly but surely been creeping into our lives and becoming more and more integral in our daily lives.

Just how much we depend on mobile payments almost entirely depends on which software different companies decide to use, in order to make it and secure and convenient as possible. Not everyone trusts this technology, so it’s boom in 2018 relies on having the safest and easiest software to use.
